Stacked Wild

What Is a Stacked Wild?

A Stacked Wild is a slot game feature where multiple wild symbols appear together in a vertical group on the same reel. Like regular wild symbols, stacked wilds can substitute for other eligible symbols to help form winning combinations. Because several wilds appear in adjacent positions, they can contribute to multiple winning patterns during a single spin.

How Do Stacked Wilds Work?

Stacked wilds appear as groups of wild symbols occupying consecutive positions on a reel. Depending on the game, a stack may cover two or more positions, fill an entire reel, or appear across multiple reels at once. When the reels stop, the stacked wild symbols can substitute for eligible regular symbols according to the game's paytable. Some slot games also combine stacked wilds with free spins, multipliers, or other special features.

Why Stacked Wilds Matter & Examples

Stacked wilds add variety to slot gameplay by allowing multiple wild symbols to appear together, potentially contributing to several winning combinations. Unlike expanding wilds, which grow to cover additional positions after activation, stacked wilds generally appear as a group when the reels stop.
  • Example: A five-reel slot lands three stacked wild symbols on the third reel. These wilds occupy three consecutive positions and can substitute for eligible symbols across multiple paylines, potentially creating several winning combinations during the same spin
Stacked wilds do not guarantee a win, and their behavior depends on the rules of the individual game.
